Any editor/poet who does not have this Special Issue of Bathtub Gin is in the dark, feeling various parts of the elephant. Here, a bright, crisp spotlight shines on the alternatezine/smallpress (az/sp) world - from A to Z (warts & all)!
An interview with Alan Catlin, on the small press, is both historically enlightened - and personally intelligent. Ditto for the Small Press Center’s Karin Taylor (NYC); and for Cheryl Townsend’s Impetus and her small press bookstore, Cat’s Impetuous Books & Stuff. If one wanted to write a perceptive history of the az/sp world (to update Pushcart’s, Little Magazine in America - 1978), a week of discussion and notetaking would have to be done with each of the above mentioned trio - addresses are provided.
These two bright editors at Bathtub have also included the must-read results of a survey re: "small press topics/issues" - 20 pages long - with responses from David Christy (Alpha Beat Press); Mike Hathaway (Chiron Review); M. Scott Douglass (Main Street Rag/Independence Boulevard); and 7 others in-the-know.
The format illustrates the usual care in eye-catching design and careful editing that the reader enjoys in Bathtub Gin’s regular issues of poetry, essay, fiction, artwork. This issue MUST be the first $5.00 you spend in the year 2000!
